If you have a child with a developmental disability, you will likely be involved with 3 different support systems by the time your child is 5 years of age. The first system you may be involved in is Early Internvention. This is a Nassau County agency that is not connected with the school district. Once your child is 2 1/2 years of age, you need to begin the transition to CPSE. The Committee on Preschool Special Education is part of your school district, but the funding and provision of evaluations and services is through Nassau County and Nassau County approved evaluation/service providers. When your child is approaching 5 years of age, meeting the age requirement for Kindergarten the following academic year, you will begin your third transition, that is to the CSE. The Committee on Special Education is funded by your district and services are provided by district staff or district contracted providers. Please see the links below for more information.
