SEPTA stands for special education parent teacher association. We are not connected to any one school, rather we are a district wide parent organization that works closely with Pupil Personnel Services and all building and district wide administrators. We are here to help children, parents and staff through parent outreach, special education teacher grants, meetings, special events, fundraising, and host of other activities. You might wonder what SEPTA can do for you. Well here are 10 things that SEPTA provides...
1. Opportunities to meet district staff who make decisions that effect your children.
2. Learn about the range of special education supports that our district provides.
3. Meet other parents who may be going through the same challenges you face.
4. Meet parents of older children who have similar issues to your own so you can better understand and navigate your child's education needs as they grow.
5. Learn about resources in the community and other special education issues that may relate to your child.
6. Prepare for major educational transitions such as EI to CPSE, CPSE to CSE, school age to secondary, and transition planning for life after school.
7. Become a better advocate for your child by understanding how special education works.
8. To have a forum to share concerns, frustrations, and successes.
9. To have a place where you feel understood.
10. To help your child.
We encourage you to attend meetings, become active in SEPTA, and explore our website.
